Here is some information I wanted to share from Microsoft in order to help those who are having issues with upgrading to CRM 4.0. This article outlines the necessary steps required to revert back to CRM 3.0, in the event of being unable to upgrade to CRM 4.0. Hopefully no one will need to reference this information, but I wanted to post it just in case people are having issues.

This article describes how to revert to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 if you cannot upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

To revert to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, follow these steps:
1. Uninstall Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
b. Click Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server, and then click Remove.
2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove the files that are installed by the previous Setup program. For more information about the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
290301 Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Note Make sure that the Microsoft Dynamics CRM files are removed.
3. Delete the databases that are created by the upgrade process. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
b. Expand Databases.
c. Right-click Organization_Name_MSCRM, and then click Delete.
d. Right-click MSCRM_CONFIG, and then click Delete.
4. Restore the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 MSCRM database that you backed up before you upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, and then restore the Metabase database that you backed up before you upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

5. Obtain the product key from the license table. To do this, run the following query in SQL Server Management Studio against the Organization_Name_MSCRM database. Select licensekey from license
6. Reinstall Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 to the existing databases. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Run the Setup program of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.
b. When you are prompted to enter a product key, enter the product key that you obtained in step 5.
c. Click Add, and then click Next.
d. Enter the name of the server that is running SQL Server, and then click Connect to existing databases.
e. Complete the installation.
